Promoting wellbeing is the principle duty contained in the Care Act 2014. Every action taken or decision made by the local authority must consider the adult’s wellbeing. Wellbeing covers personal dignity; physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing; protection from abuse and neglect; control by the adult over day-to-day life; participation in work, education, training or recreation; social and economic wellbeing; domestic, family and personal; suitability of living accommodation; the adult’s contribution to society. There is no hierarchy, and all aspects of wellbeing should be considered of equal importance.
