Independent mental health advocacy (IMHA) is available for ‘qualifying patients’ under the Mental Heath Act (MHA) 1983. This includes people who are detained for treatment or subject to a Community Treatment Order. The role of the IMHA is provide for support for people with issues relating to their mental health care and treatment and make sure they understand their rights under the MHA.
